Lauriinihappo

Lauriinihappo (eng. Lauric acid) (tunnetaan myös nimellä Dodekaanihappo) on tyydyttynyt rasvahappo. Yhdistettä esiintyy kookosöljyssä, öljypalmun öljyssä, laakeripuun öljyssä, ihmisen maidossa, vuohenmaidossa ja lehmänmaidossa[1][2]. Lauriinihappoa käytetään saippuan ja kosmetiikkatuotteiden valmistamiseen sekä laboratoriotutkimuksessa tuntemattoman yhdisteen moolimassan selvittämiseen[3].

Terveysvaikutukset muokkaa

Vaikka lauriinihappo onkin tyydyttynyt rasva, se nostaa hyvää HDL-kolesterolia.[4] Lauriinihapolla on myös havaittu olevan antimikrobisia ominaisuuksia[5][6][7][8] sekä syöpäsolujen lisääntymistä hillitseviä vaikutuksia esimerkiksi paksusuolen syövän, rintasyövän ja kohdun limakalvon syövän kohdalla[9].

Lauriinihappoa esiintyy myös kukkien tuoksuissa ja semiokemikaalina eliöiden viestinnässä.
