I Wouldn’t Want to Be Like You on englantilaisen rockyhtye The Alan Parsons Projectin single vuodelta 1977. Kappale on julkaistu myös yhtyeen albumilla I Robot. Kappaleen kirjoittivat yhtyeen keulahahmot Alan Parsons ja Eric Woolfson ja sen lauloi Lenny Zakatek, joka myöhemmin esitti myös muita The Alan Parsons Projectin singlejulkaisuja, tunnetuimpana vuonna 1980 julkaistun ”Games People Playn”.

Hitiksi nousseesta ”I Wouldn’t Want to Be Like Youstä” muodostui The Alan Parsons Projectin läpimurto.[3][4] Se oli Yhdysvaltojen singlelistalla (Billboard Hot 100) parhaimmillaan sijalla 36.[5] Kappaleesta tehtiin myös yhtyeen ensimmäinen musiikkivideo.[6] Videolla Parsons ja robotiksi maskeerattu mies ihmettelevät toisiaan futuristisessa ympäristössä.[7]

AllMusicin Stephen Thomas Erlewine kuvailee kappaletta ”paranoidiksi disco-rockiksi”, joka taidepopille epätyypillisesti ”panostaa myös tarttuviin koukkuihin”.[3] Don ja Jeff Breithauptin teos Night Moves: Pop Music in the Late ’70s mainitsee ”I Wouldn’t Want to Be Like Youn” yhtenä 1970-luvun lopun progressiivista popia määritelleistä kappaleista.[1]

Populaarikulttuurissa muokkaa

  • Kappale soi myös Netflix-sarja Mindhunterin (2017) 9. jaksossa.
