Vaclav Smil

Vaclav Smil (s. 9. joulukuuta 1943 Plzeň) on kanadalainen emeritusprofessori ja tietokirjailija.

Elämäkerta

Smil syntyi Plzeňissä vuonna 1943. Hän opiskeli Kaarlen yliopistossa ja suoritti luonnontieteiden tohtorin tutkinnon vuonna 1965. Hän suoritti asepalveluksen Tšekkoslovakian armeijan maantieteellisessä instituutissa 1966-67. Smil muutti Yhdysvaltohin vuonna 1969 ja suoritti maantieteen tohtorin tutkinnon Pennsylvanian osavaltionyliopistossa 1972. Siitä pitäen hän toimi Kanadassa Manitoban yliopistossa, ensin apulaisprofessorina, sitten professorina ja lopulta nimikkeellä distinguished professor of geography.

Kirjallinen tuotanto

Smil on kirjoittanut ansiokkaita teoksia mm. ympäristöongelmista, ihmiskunnan resurssien ja energian käytöstä, ruuantuotannosta ja tekniikan historiasta.
