Cameo muistetaan parhaiten 1980-luvun R&B-hiteistä, joista tunnetuin on listojen kärkeen noussut "Word up!" vuodelta 1986. Kappalesta ovat tehneet cover-kappaleen mm. [[Korn]] ja [[Melanie B]]. 1970-luvun funk-levyistä voidaan mainita esimerkiksi ''Cardiac Arrest'' (1977), jonka tunnetuin kappale on "Rigor Mortis". Yhtyeen keulahahmo on laulaja Larry Blackmon.
