Sarjan maailma ja tarina oli alun perin yhteydessä ''[[Might and Magic]]'' -roolipelin maailmaan.

Kaikki sarjan pelit toimivat [[Windows]]illa, ja kolmas osa toimii myös [[Linux]]illa. <ref>http://www.lokigames.com/products/heroes3/</ref> Kaksi ensimmäistä osaa kehitettiin alun perin [[MS-DOS]]|MS-DOS:lle]], mutta ne käännettiin myöhemmin myös [[Windows]]ille. Pelisarjan kaikki osat lukuun ottamatta joitain lisäosia toimivat myös Mac -käyttöjärjestelmällä.

[[King's Bounty|''King's Bounty'']] (1990) on [[New World Computing]]in peli, josta on suurelti osin muotoutunut ''Heroes of Might and Magic'' -pelit ovat suurimmaksi osaksi muotoutuneet. Pelistä tehtiin myöhemmin uusi versio [[PlayStation 2|PlayStation 2:lle]], ja se myytiin nimellä [[Heroes of Might and Magic: Quest for the Dragon Bone Staff|''Heroes of Might and Magic: Quest for the Dragon Bone Staff'']]. [[King's Bounty|''King's Bountylle'']]lle tuli jatko-osa vuonna [[2008]] jatko-osa [[King's Bounty: The Legend|''King's Bounty: The Legend'']], jonka kehitti [[Katauri Interactive]] ja julkaisijulkaisivat [[1C Company]] sekä [[Atari]].
