'''Maroniitit''' ovat [[600-luku|600-luvun]] jälkipuoliskolla [[Libanon]]in vuoristoalueelle syntyneen maroniittikirkon jäseniä. Kirkko sai nimensä pappi Johannes Maronista. Hän organisoi itse johtamansa kirkon, joka näyttää käsittäneen [[700-luku|700-luvulla]] kaikki Libanonin vuoristoheimot. Sen heimokirkon luonteesta ja eristyneisyydestä johtui, ettei islamilainen maailma painostanut sitä voimakkaasti. Maroniittikirkko on aina kuulunut paavin johtamaan [[katolinen kirkko|katoliseen kirkkoon]], ja se muodostaa sen sisällä oman patriarkaattinsa erotuksena latinalaisen patriarkaatin muodostamasta roomalaiskatolisesta kirkosta. Maroniitteja syytettiin keskiajalla [[Monoteletismi|monoteletistisen]] harhaopin omaksumisesta, mutta myöhemmin tämä väite on havaittu vääräksi.
Nykyään maroniittien etninen ominaisalue kuuluu [[Libanon]]iin.
