Karen Gillan
skotlantilainen näyttelijä ja malli
Karen Sheila Gillan (s. 28. marraskuuta 1987 Inverness, Skotlanti) on skotlantilainen näyttelijä ja malli.[1][2] Gillan tunnetaan erityisesti roolistaan Tohtorin matkakumppanina Amy Pondina televisiosarjassa Doctor Who.[1] Hahmo oli erittäin suosittu ja oli mukana monissa sarjaan liittyvissä oheistuotteissa, kuten kirjoissa ja videopeleissä.[3]

Gillan aloitti uransa nuorisoteatterituotannoissa.[2] Hän muutti 16-vuotiaana Invernessistä Edinburghiin näyttelijäopintoja varten. Myöhemmin Gillan opiskeli näyttelemistä lontoolaisessa Italia Conti -koulussa.[4] Hänen ensiesiintymisensä 2000-luvun Doctor Whossa tapahtui neljännen kauden jaksossa ”Pompeijin liekit” (engl. The Fires of Pompeii).[4][5] Tuolloin hänellä oli kuitenkin vain pieni sivuosa roomalaisen ennustajan roolissa.[4] Amy Pondia Gillan näytteli ensimmäisen kerran viidennen tuotantokauden ensimmäisessä jaksossa vuonna 2010. Hän jätti sarjan yhdessä Rory Williamsia esittäneen Arthur Darvillin kanssa seitsemännellä kaudella.[6] Tohtorin kumppanina Gillanin korvasi Claraa esittävä Jenna Coleman.[7][8]
Gillanin jätettyä Doctor Whon vuonna 2012 Shonda Rhimes tarjosi hänelle uuden yhdysvaltalaisen televisiosarjan pääosaa. Gillan kuitenkin kieltäytyi tarjouksesta, koska oli jo lupautunut näyttelemään John Mackayn ohjaamassa indie-elokuvassa Not Another Happy Ending.[9]
Marvel Studiosin avaruuteen sijoittuvassa seikkailuelokuvassa Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) Gillan esiintyi Nebulan roolissa.[3][10] Hän jatkaa roolissaan Nebulana myös elokuvan jatko-osassa Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017) sekä elokuvissa Avengers: Infinity War (2018) ja Avengers: Endgame (2019).
FHM valitsi Gillanin maailman sadan seksikkäimmän naisen luetteloonsa 2011 ja 2012. Noina vuosina lehti asetti hänet sijoille 42 ja 36.[1]
