Ichthyostega
Ichthyostega oli alkusammakkoeläinsuku, joka sijoittuu evoluutiossa kalojen ja sammakkoeläinten väliin.[1] Ichthyostega eli myöhäisdevonikaudella 367–362,5 miljoonaa vuotta sitten[1] ja oli luultavasti hieman sitä muistuttavaa Acanthostegaa paremmin sopeutunut maaelämään.[2]

Ichthyostegoideja eli kalasammakoita seurasivat temnospondylit[3] ja anthracosaurit,[4] kuten esimerkiksi Eryops,[5] joka oli oikea maalla liikkuva sammakkoeläin.[5] Molempien sammakkoeläinten ja kalojen välissä on 20–30 miljoonan vuoden mittainen fossiiliton aukko, Romerin aukko (engl. Romer’s Gap).[6][7] Vuonna 2002 löydettiin Romerin aukon keskivaiheille sijoittuva 350 miljoonaa vuotta vanha fossiili, Pederpes finneyae.[8][9][10]
