Martin on keskeinen hahmo kokeellisessa Tuatara-yhtyeessä. Tuatarassa soittaa myös R.E.M:n kitaristi Peter Buck ja Martin toimikin Bill Berryn lähdön jälkeen rumpalina R.E.M:n Up-albumilla.
Martinilla on oma levy-yhtiö Fast Horse Recordings. Vuonna 2004 hän julkaisi modernia jazzia sisältävän soololevyn The Painted Desert.
