FMPortal (Finland Municipalities Portal) is a centralized database set up in the toolserver. The database contains numeric, statistical data about municipalities of Finland, such as population numbers, area, community tax percentages and general demographic information. The Finland Municipalities Portal offers three different interfaces:

1. Data search
2. Addition and update of localization information
3. Addition and update of numeric data

Addition and update of numeric data requires authentication and is password-protected. The rest of the interfaces are open for everyone.

Using the templates

All values in the templates are formatted in a standardized way: there are no thousand separators and the decimal is dot (e.g. full stop or .). The standardized formatting ensures the data is reusable in all language versions as follows:

Localization

To ensure the functionality of the templates, the names of municipalities must be entered in a format usable by the templates. The FMPortal can be localized for each available language version of Wikipedia to account for a possible suffix or a specifier in the municipality name, which might also vary in different language versions (e.g. Lappi (kunta) and en:Lappi, Finland).

Adding and updating data

For security reasons the adding and updating data requires a password. If you want to update the data only once or for a limited number of records, contact either user Agony@fiwiki or user str4nd@fiwiki for the password. If you would like to participate in the project for an extended period of time and supply monthly or yearly updates, contact user Agony@fiwiki.

Adding new templates

The tool interface does not currently allow adding new templates, so if you have ideas for new templates usable across all projects, please start a discussion (English language allowed and recommended).
