Die Stem van Suid Afrika

Die Stem van Suid-Afrika (engl. The Call of South Africa, suom. Etelä-Afrikan kutsu) oli vuodesta 1957 vuoteen 1994 Etelä-Afrikan kansallislaulu.

Afrikaansiksi kirjoitettu teksti on peräisin C. J. Langenhovenin toukokuussa 1918 kirjoittamasta runosta. Musiikin runoon sävelsi vuonna 1921 pastori M. L. de Villiers. Etelä-Afrikan yleisradio alkoi pian soittaa de Villiersin sävelmää kansallislaulun paikalla ohjelmistonsa lopussa virallisen kansallishymnin God Save the Kingin yhteydessä. Vuonna 1928 laulu esitettiin ensimmäistä kertaa virallisessa tilaisuudessa kansallishymninä. Vuodesta 1932 käytössä on myös laulun englanninkielinen käännös The Call of South Africa.

2. toukokuuta 1957 Etelä-Afrikan hallitus julisti Die Stem van Suid-Afrikan virallisesti maan kansallislauluksi. Maan parlamentti vahvisti asian lailla vuonna 1959. Apartheid-hallinnon Etelä-Afrikassa laulu profiloitui ennen kaikkea valkoihoisen vähemmistön kansallislauluksi, eikä musta enemmistö tuntenut sitä omakseen.

Apartheid-hallinnon päättymisen jälkeen Etelä-Afrikalla oli vuodesta 1994 käytössään kaksi virallista kansallishymniä, jotka soitettiin virallisissa yhteyksissä perä jälkeen. Ensiksi soitettiin mustien kansalaisoikeustaistelijoiden tunnuslauluksi muodostunut, myös Tansanian ja (tosin toisilla sanoilla) Sambian kansallislauluna käytetty Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika ja heti sen perään Stem van Suid-Afrika. Vuonna 1996 näistä lauluista muodostettiin uusi, viisikielinen kansallishymni, Etelä-Afrikan kansallislaulu.
