Description:
The memorial stone and graves of the fallen heros of the Winter War (1939–1940) and Continuation War (1941–1944) of Finland at the midnight after the day of independence, 6th December, at the cemetery of the Evangelic-Lutheran parish of Hollola in Hollola, Finland. The stone was designed by Rafael Saartio. During the WWII In Finland there was a practise to return the fallen soldiers to the cemetery of their own parish. This tradition dates back to the civil war of 1918. During the WWII Finland took part in three differend wars: the Winter war in 1939–1940 against the Soviet Union as a neutral non-allied country, the Continuous war in 1941–1944 as a co-belligrent of Germany, when Finland tried to return its territorial losses of the Winter war and the War of Lapland 1944–1945 against the Germans because of the demand of the allies, because there were German troops in the Northern Finland.
