Bernard Lonergan

Bernard Joseph Francis Lonergan CC, SJ, (17. joulukuuta 1904 – 26. marraskuuta 1984) oli kanadalainen jesuiittapappi sekä tomistinen filosofi ja teologi. Hän on opettanut Montrealin Loyola Collegessa (nykyinen Concordian yliopisto), Toronton yliopistossa (Regis College), Pontifical Gregorian Universityssä ja Boston Collegessa.

Lonergan tunnetaan empiirisen Generalized Empirical Method (GEM) -menetelmän kehittäjänä. Se kuuluu Joseph Maréchalin perustamaan ”transsendentaaliseen tomismiin”. Lonergan piti sitä myös kriittisenä realismina. GEM jakaa inhimillisen tiedon kolmeen tasoon, kokemus, ymmärrys ja arvostelma. Lonergan on kirjoittanut paljon myös taloustieteestä.
